To make this product bio-compostable an additive is introduced which contains an organic polymer that will break down the plastic when activated. This breakdown procedure will only activate when it reaches landfill, a compost environment, the ocean or a river.  Within these conditions the microbes in the additive utilise the plastic as a food and energy source thus accelerating the biodegradation process.

What used to take thousands of years to break down plastic now takes only a few years as the microbes consume the entire product, only leaving behind the same bi product as decaying organic matter - humus, CO2 and CH4 all of which can be captured to produce clean energy.

The carbon footprint of producing BIOPET is much lower than paper or board alternatives. 

This additive has been independently tested and complies with the Intertek Greenleaf Biodegradability Standard. The material has also been tested via the ASTM D5511 (ISO 15985) and EN15985 Standard.
